Who Gets a Full Exemption (Free)?
You pay nothing if you receive any of these benefits:
- Income Support
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
- Guarantee Credit (part of Pension Credit)
- Universal Credit (with gross annual income below £12,000)
- A combination that includes one of the above
Who Gets a 50% Reduction?
You pay £41 per LPA if:
- Your gross annual income is below £12,000
- You receive Universal Credit with income between £12,000 and the threshold
What Counts as Income?
Include:
- Earnings from employment
- Self-employment profits
- State Pension
- Private/occupational pensions
- Benefits (except those that give exemption)
- Interest from savings
- Rental income
What Doesn't Count
Don't include:
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Reduction
- Child Benefit (in most cases)
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer's Allowance premium
